Robert Standish (American, b.1964) is a Los Angeles–based American painter whose practice centers on abstraction and the construction of layered visual fields. His earlier work in photorealism informs his attention to surface, structure, and image formation, which he carries into abstraction through material processes.
His work is held in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, JPMorgan Chase, the Weisman Foundation, the Crocker Art Museum, and Stanford University, among others. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, including at the Hammer Museum, Torrance Art Museum, and Laguna Art Museum, and in a two-person exhibition with works by Sam Francis at Martin Lawrence Galleries, San Francisco.
