The Mark Moore Gallery is pleased to announce the third solo exhibition of drawings by Tom of Finland. While known as the premier gay erotic artist of the twentieth century, this exhibition, Faces, will emphasis the emotive and technical aspects of Tom’s drawing facility. It will include rough sketches of some of his more popular works, plus a number of finished drawings. The dates of the drawings are from rare, early seventies works, to images from 1990. The selection ranges from portraiture to highly erotic pictures.
Intentionally rough, strong and large, Tom’s men are idealised beings in an unapologetically erotic world. Tom’s drawings of men epitomize the idea of masculinity, if not hyper-masculinity. Although, not all of the artist’s images portray the ’super male’ archtype; Faces intends to show Tom’s range of emotional content, complexity, and humor.
