Vernon Fisher

Sanded Text Pieces 1976-1982

February 21 – March 27, 2004

In the mid-seventies, Vernon Fisher —already an accomplished abstract painter — began incorporating text and photography into his work. The new works used text and imagery to tell a story. At the same time, they questioned the construction and reception of linguistic and visual representation.

Fisher’s work has been the subject of solo museum exhibitions at such institutions as the Miami Art Museum; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; the Albright-Knox Museum, Buffalo; the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston; and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
